The Oryx bullet has a lead core, meaning that the jacket and core are permanently bonded together. This combination provides high strength and prevents the bullet from cracking or bursting on impact, even through thick bone. To ensure optimal expansion at all impact velocities, the Oryx has a thin front jacket with internal protective plates. The combination of the jacket and the thicker rear wall provides very high mass retention (often over 90%) and excellent penetration. The Oryx expands rapidly to a large diameter without cracking, creating a wide penetration channel and reducing tissue damage. The high mass retention also ensures good penetration and high energy release. Since its introduction in 1996, the Oryx has become the flagship of the Norma series and is known worldwide for its excellent performance. The Oryx bullet is unique in that it has a fast expansion for lethal bullets, as well as high mass retention and penetration for the most demanding applications.
